Brief Biography of

The Most Venerable Taungpulu KyaukSin

Tawya Pakokku Sayadawgyi


The Most Venerable Taungpulu KyaukSin Tawya Pakokku Sayadaw was born in Nyaung Bin Tha Village, Nwa Htoe Gyi Township, Mandalay Division, on Friday, the 13th waning day of Tazaungmon 1290 B.E. His parents were U Chit and Daw Aye Nyein. He studied Pariyatti at Lanmadaw Monastery, Khinmakan Teik, Mandalay; Saddama Wasaka Monastery, Yadanar Bagan Teik, Pakkoku; Dhamma Myintzu and Seikta Sukkha Monasteries, Visoddha Yarma A-leh Teik Gyi, Pakkoku.

 

Sayadaw practiced Patipatti at Shwe Thain Daw Tawya Teik, Kanni and Maha Boddhi Monastery in Kanni Township. He received proper training in Satipatthana-Insight Meditation at Taungpulu Monastery under the guidance of his preceptor Venerable Taungpulu Kaba-aye Sayadawgyi. He also served as Taungpulu Kaba-aye Sayadawgyi’s Assistant for teaching to the practice of Vipassana. Like his former Venerable Taungpulu Kaba-aye Sayadawgyi, he (Taungpulu Kyauksin Tawya Pakokku Sayadawgyi)  used to practice the Vipassana Meditation at this Kyauksin Tawya during the lent every year, so that he became well known as Taungpulu Kyauksin Tawya Pakokku Sayadaw. He observes the practice of alms-round and parivatta vinaya - kamma, especially the 13 dutanga practices.

 

Sayadawgyi had accompanied with his former Taungpulu Kaba-aye Sayadawgyi to U.S.A in 1978 on a missionary journey. He had been missionary on tour to U.S.A for five times by 2001. On his return journey, he went on a pilgrimage to Buddha Garya in India. He had also visited England, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Srilanka, Nepal, Thailand and Singapore. While his missionary journey in U.S.A, he went on his daily alms-round, consecrated the sima-halls, performed and presided the higher ordination of monkshood and chanting Parittas and Pathana Daesana.

 

Every year Sayadawgyi always conducts round about 20 Meditation Retreats all over Myanmar. He always reminds both Burmese and Non-Burmese Buddhists to the importance of the Triple Gems and the five precepts.
